Uh, This Week? Yeah, I’m Still Hanging In There
The most exciting thing that happened this week is that the San Francisco Giants won the World Series, which is special because I live in San Francisco, and I’m a Giants fan. Okay, I just had to get that out of the way. Now for the bittersweet: Less than 90 days ago, two literary agents requested to read one of my scripts, so I was excited, but not as excited as the first time I received this kind of news, but still happy about the forward movement.
It’s been my experience that when an agent/manager is really thrilled about a script, he/she will call within the first week. It’s been approximately 90 days, but I understand that lines get crossed, a ton of scripts come in and out, and agents fall behind. I emailed to find out the status of my script. I had a feeling it was a “pass.” I was 50% correct. One agent found my script well written (she was nice and professional), but didn’t completely fall in love with it, so she passed on it, which is okay, because I want an agent who is in love with my script and will fight to get it sold. So, I followed up with the other interested agent.
He was honest and told me that he has been so busy that he hasn’t had the time to review/decided on any scripts. He gave me the option to get in touch again at the beginning of the year. Well, that’s not a flat out pass, so I will reconnect in a few months and toss my script back in the ring.
Luckily, I do have two of my scripts out in the hands of other agents right now. And, I am approximately three or four scenes away from completing another script, a comedy, which is very challenging to write, in my opinion. Anyway, so this week has been bittersweet. Smile and know that a “yes” is coming.
